Cultivating Faith in the Countryside

RTA Membership

Rural ministry is both a calling and a challenge, shaped by the unique dynamics of countryside communities, evolving church leadership, and shifting societal expectations.

The Rural Theology Association (RTA) exists to support and inspire those engaged in this vital work by providing a dynamic space for theological discussion, research, and community engagement.

A Thriving Community for Rural Ministry

Joining the RTA means becoming part of a network that understands the joys and struggles of rural church life. Whether you are a clergy, lay leader, theological scholar, or someone passionate about rural ministry, the RTA offers valuable opportunities to connect, learn, and contribute to meaningful conversations.

The RTA welcomes members from our educational establishments where those responsible for the future of faith in the countryside are learning or may have an interest because their home is in an environment that respects the passage of the rural year reflected through the lens of the Christian faith festivals, rites and services.

Stay Informed and Inspired

For only £15 per year, as a member, you’ll gain access to the journal Rural Theology, published twice yearly. This essential resource features:

  • Theological reflections on rural ministry challenges and opportunities
  • In-depth research articles that inform and enrich ministry practice
  • Book reviews to keep you updated on relevant literature
  • Sermons and poetry that bring faith and rural life into creative dialogue
  • Free Online Access to all past issues.

We also plan to provide a growing range of digital content—podcasts, newsletters, and short articles—designed to keep you connected to contemporary discussions and theological insights wherever you are.

Be Part of the Conversation

The RTA is committed to advocating for rural ministry by amplifying theological perspectives that address real-world challenges, such as declining clergy numbers, parish reorganisation, and the expanding roles of lay leaders.

Our association serves as a crucial hub for ecumenical dialogue, story-sharing, and theological reflection, ensuring that rural voices are heard and supported.
